Agave Roja

This might not be fair. We are basically tourists who showed up with a local, who mattered to them. We got extra attention, but we were there late and the place had cleared out. Chatting w/ the Manager who was working the bar, he lifted his chin at the menu and said, "Just tell me what you want, and we'll make it happen." Excellent food. Portions lean to the shareable. I could have done the 'clean plate club' thing, but I'd have been sorry. Obvious skill in the restauranteur, and the kitchen staff. Quite a ride at 35mph, but worth the effort. We will be back.

Right when we walked in we were waited on and told 5 minute wait for a table. Then bartender starts talking to us making us feel welcomed while we waited. The wife the flautas which were excellent. I got the shrimp tacos. Really liked them. Would have loved them if they came with cilantro versus lettuce. Oh and I added the pickled onions from my wife’s flautas and they were awesome! Great service and food here!

Update - Fall of 2023 My wife and I returned to Agave Roja this past October for dinner. We wanted to see if our experience back in 2022 was a fluke. It was. I cannot express how eating in the restaurant was better than getting takeout. The food was excellent; the service was spot on. Our waiter had many suggestions, from the specials to sauces, if we wanted to try them. We just had such a great time. So, that said, I'm updating my review. Next time we're back in the Corolla, we're heading to Agave Roja. Initial Take out visit Fall of 2022 Was just there last week. Spent $88 dollars for take out lunch (plus a 20% tip). My wife ordered veg fajitas and I ordered Borchetta de camarones, along with a quart of Cucumber & Jalapeño marg mix. When I got there my order was waiting. Got home and found the quart missing. Checked my order and was just very under impressed with brocheta de camerones. At $27 dollars, I expected more than what you can see in the picture. My wife was really upset because as a vegan, she doesn't have a lot of options from restaurants. When she got her meal it was soggy and she didn't bother eating it. I wound up calling the restaurant and they apologized about the missing the quart. I drove back and picked it up. So to spend over $100 dollars for this just not acceptable. The saddest part is that Cucumber & Jalapeño marg mix was the best part of the meal. Just wished the rest of the meal was as good.

We were a party of three and were told there weren't any tables available.We instead sat at the bar and got excellent service from a friendly but busy bartender.The margaritas were excellent,chips and guac were tasty as well.We enjoyed our entrees and again the service was excellent.I did see a three percent service charge on the menu.We had left the bartender a twenty five percent tip(deservingly so) but what is this thee percent service charge?Am I tipping the kitchen now?As long as any restaurant tacks on any "service"fee,I will not return.Shame, the food and service was good.

.We wanted Mexican, so we went. They had tables open but told us they were taken. So we said the end of the bar would be good. So we got drinks and waited and waited to order. By this time, regulars were coming in and the owner or manager started giving out shots of tequila they pretty much forgot us. It took a very long time to take our order and more time to receive our food. I can't say anything bad about the food it was good but the restaurant was pretty much a regulars bar and the staff took care of them first and that was very unprofessional. This place was expensive also. Life and learn.
